I’m a Honolulu-based writer and editor. After decades in book publishing, I took a late-career turn into journalism and have written about some of Hawai‘i’s big issues, such as coping with climate change, rebuilding Lahaina, how workplaces fail women, striving and shortfalls in the public schools, and the youth mental-health crisis.

As a freelancer or full-timer, I’ve worked as a magazine writer, copywriter, copyeditor, managing editor, direct mail manager, researcher, and graphic designer. I moved to Honolulu in 2001, spent the 90s in New York City, the 80s in Austin, and a year among the kookaburras in Brisbane. I grew up in the swamplands outside New Orleans.

Among other awards, I won first place for best body of work by a single writer from the Hawai‘i chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in 2025, first place in sustainability reporting from the Ulupono Initiative in 2025, and first place in explanatory journalism from the Alliance of Area Business Publishers in 2023.
